Study Pharmacy in Brno
A practice-oriented Pharmacy degree in the Czech Republic
The Faculty of Pharmacy in Brno
The Faculty of Pharmacy in Brno combines a long tradition of pharmaceutical education with a distinctly modern outlook. Its history dates back to 1952, when it was first established as an independent faculty of Masaryk University. Following several organisational changes and many years at the University of Veterinary Sciences, it returned to Masaryk University in 2020. Show more
Today, the faculty focuses on educating future pharmacists and conducting research into medicines, their active ingredients, manufacture and use. Its research is organised across six departments and ranges from pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutical technology to pharmacology, molecular biology and pharmaceutical biotechnology. The faculty works closely with the university's medical and natural science disciplines.
For you, this means studying medicines from several complementary perspectives. You will learn not only how active ingredients work, but also how medicines are developed, manufactured, tested and ultimately used in practice. This combination of natural sciences, health sciences and practical pharmacy is a defining feature of the programme in Brno.
The year 2026 also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the faculty. It has moved to the Bohunice campus, where it now has a building designed specifically for modern pharmaceutical teaching and research. This brings Pharmacy into even closer proximity to Medicine, the natural sciences and biomedical research.
Masaryk University
Founded in 1919, Masaryk University is now one of the leading universities in the Czech Republic. Its ten faculties cover a broad range of disciplines, from medicine and the natural sciences to computer science, economics, law and the humanities. This creates an academic environment that extends far beyond the boundaries of a single subject. Show more
This breadth is particularly valuable in Pharmacy. Developing medicines brings together chemistry, biology, medicine and modern biotechnology – all fields with a strong presence at Masaryk University. The Faculty of Pharmacy can therefore collaborate with other research institutions across the university and draw on expertise and facilities beyond the faculty itself.
Research and modern scientific infrastructure are major priorities for the university. This is particularly visible on the Bohunice campus, which is home to facilities of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science as well as the CEITEC research centre. It is a setting where medical, biological and technological research come together.
Masaryk University therefore offers you an appealing combination: the heritage of a long-established university alongside a modern, interdisciplinary research environment. The Faculty of Pharmacy's integration into the Bohunice campus in 2026 has strengthened this connection even further.
The MUNI BioPharma Hub
The MUNI BioPharma Hub has been the new home of the Faculty of Pharmacy since 2026 and is one of Masaryk University's largest current investments. The building was purpose-built to connect pharmaceutical teaching and research with modern biomedical infrastructure. Six floors are dedicated to education and research at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Most importantly, you will study in teaching spaces and laboratories newly equipped for the demands of modern pharmacy. In addition to specialised teaching and research facilities, the BioPharma Hub also houses the Preclinical Centre and the Centre for Molecular Medicine. This places Pharmacy, Medicine and the natural sciences side by side, enabling them to share infrastructure, technology and scientific expertise.
The link to real-world medicines development and manufacture is particularly valuable. The BioPharma Hub includes infrastructure intended to support work in accordance with GMP standards. This will allow smaller certified batches of medicines to be produced in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies. For students, it provides insight into processes that go far beyond conventional laboratory classes and connect directly with professional practice and the pharmaceutical industry.
The BioPharma Hub is therefore much more than a new faculty building. It creates a shared environment for education, medicines research and biomedical science – and gives you the opportunity to complete your degree in a newly built, technologically advanced setting.
Hands-on learning,
with plenty of lab work.
More than half of the courses are practice-oriented, combining laboratory work, seminars and modern pharmaceutical training in the new MUNI BioPharma Hub.
The City of Brno
Students have a particularly strong influence on life in Brno. The city is home to around 400,000 people, including more than 65,000 students enrolled at its various universities. This gives Brno a young, international atmosphere without the scale of a major European metropolis. Show more
That balance is easy to appreciate in everyday life. The city centre is compact, with cafés, restaurants, bars and cultural venues close together, while the public transport network makes other parts of the city easy to reach. After lectures or a long day in the laboratory, you will not have to travel far to meet friends, go out for a meal or simply take a break from your studies.
At the same time, Brno has developed into an important centre for science and technology. Universities, research centres and technology companies are as much a part of the city as its historic old town. This environment is particularly well suited to Pharmacy: in recent years, the Bohunice campus has gained modern facilities for medicine, the natural sciences and biomedical research, now joined by the Faculty of Pharmacy.
When you want to explore beyond Brno, many destinations are surprisingly close. Vienna and Bratislava are within easy reach, direct trains connect the city with Prague, and the South Moravian wine region begins just outside Brno. You will study in a city that remains pleasantly manageable in everyday life while offering plenty of opportunities for leisure, travel and an international student experience.
